How often do we think of taking and going as far away from everything and everyone as possible? If you don’t know where we recommend the Arctic Circle, which can be reached from Milan by train with a single ticket. Crazy isn’t it? It seems so far away and instead you just have to get to Central Station, board and go. 2 days of travel. 5 countries to cross and you will arrive in Santa Claus’ country. Don’t believe it? Read on.
From the Dome to the most remote Norwegian fjords. Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Just to say “I did it” – “I was there.” If the ticket is unique, it is not the same for the train. One must arm oneself with patience and expect several changes. There is still no direct Milan-Norway line. But still, this is also part of the adventure.
If you are as curious about this as we are, we try to leave you below with the various directions on how to make the journey, the stages and everything you need to know. May you perhaps find yourself braver than you think and decide to set out on the journey right away.
Milan-Arctic Circle by train
The excursion has a duration of 2 days. First stop Switzerland, you arrive in Zurich or Basel. From Switzerland direction Hamburg. Then you head to Copenhagen and from there to Stockholm. And already we have arrived in Sweden. Yes it seems like a piece of cake but we already have more than 10 hours of train travel behind us. In theory it seems like a moment but in practice there is patience as we said. A good book, a movie, good music, a trusted friend to chat with, spectacular views to look at. It goes by quickly.
From the Swedish capital you take the last train which takes several more hours, almost a day’s journey to the far north, Narvik and you will have reached your destination. 2 days gone. 2 to return. That makes 4. You must be gone at least 1 week, 10 days. Yes all very nice but which ticket do I buy? More than a ticket it is a Pass, the Interrail Pass. That allows you to use night and day trains in Europe, to be configured with the number of days you need. The ideal is to use the Global Pass for this trip. Find some info here.
For example, let’s say you choose the 10-day pass (within 2 months). It gives you the ability to take as many trains as you want on each of the 10 travel days from the time you activate the pass, and within 2 months. It is priced at about 240 euros. Or the 15 or 22 days in a row pass allows you to take as many trains as you want for 15 or 22 days in a row. Ideal for a trip like this. We are around 300 euros.
Would you ever do that?
