The 2027 calendar has several dates worth circling, but spring won’t be kind to those hoping for a long weekend: April 25 will be a Sunday, and May 1 will fall on a Saturday. For those who work Monday through Friday, neither holiday will result in an extra day off.
Milan, however, can count on a favorable combination in December: the Feast of Saint Ambrose falls on Tuesday, the 7th, followed by the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, the 8th. Here are all the national holidays for 2027 and the date to add for the city.
No long weekend in May for April 25 and May 1
In 2027, Liberation Day, on April 25, falls on a Sunday, while Labor Day, on May 1, falls on a Saturday. The two holidays, one week apart, do not automatically shift to Monday: therefore, the traditional May long weekend will not take place this year.

All national holidays in 2027
The Italian calendar includes 13 national holidays, including Easter and Easter Monday. Here are the dates to mark on your calendar:
- Friday, January 1 – New Year’s Day
- Wednesday, January 6 – Epiphany
- Sunday, March 28 – Easter
- Monday, March 29 – Easter Monday
- Sunday, April 25 – Liberation Day
- Saturday, May 1 – Labor Day
- Wednesday, June 2 – Republic Day
- Sunday, August 15 – Ferragosto
- Monday, October 4 – National Holiday of St. Francis of Assisi
- Monday, November 1 – All Saints’ Day
- Wednesday, December 8 – Feast of the Immaculate Conception
- Saturday, December 25 – Christmas
- Sunday, December 26 – St. Stephen’s Day
Among the new additions is October 4: the national holiday of St. Francis of Assisi was reintroduced in 2026 and falls on a Monday in 2027, giving us a long weekend.
In Milan, St. Ambrose’s Day falls on the same day as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception
For those who live or work in the city, the national calendar is supplemented by the patron saint’s day of Saint Ambrose on Tuesday, December 7. The following day, Wednesday, December 8, is a holiday throughout Italy for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
By taking Monday, December 6, off, you can combine these two holidays with the weekend and enjoy five consecutive days off, from Saturday, December 4, through Wednesday, December 8. Other long weekends to mark on your calendar are New Year’s Day, Easter Monday, St. Francis’ Day, and All Saints’ Day, which in 2027 fall on a Friday or Monday.
