Just a stone’s throw from the Catholic University of Milan , Aalis Bakery has opened its doors — a new establishment with an international flair. The bakery was born from the collaboration between Paolo Martucelli, Alex Marelli, and his sister Alice, who combined their previous experience in the restaurant industry and the craft beer scene to create a multifunctional space inspired by Northern European and French models.
From breakfast to afternoon snacks
The pastry selection, under the guidance of Parisian baker Martin Dumas, is clearly inspired by France. The pastry counter is dominated by flaky croissants made with butter from Normandy, available in both classic and filled varieties. These are joined by other specialties from across the Alps, such as pain au chocolat, pan suisse, and almond croissants, as well as cinnamon rolls.
For those who prefer a homemade treat, the café bakes cramique, a typical Belgian sweet bread enriched with chocolate chips that can also be purchased in a large size to take home, in addition to classics like lemon cake and carrot cake. Rounding out the café’s offerings is a carefully curated selection of specialty coffees.
From 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the space transforms for brunch and lunch. The menu includes international classics—eggs prepared in various ways, avocado toast, and the classic combination of bread, butter, and jam—alongside a full bistro-style selection featuring a daily first course and main course, as well as a variety of salads.
The bakery, of course, also takes center stage when it comes to savory items. The selection ranges from quick bites like focaccia (plain or stuffed with mortadella) and “pizzetta rossa” with a slightly thicker crust than usual, to heartier snacks such as croque monsieur, toast with cotto ham and fontina cheese, and savory stuffed croissants. Finally, Aalis is also a bakery where you can buy fresh bread baked daily.
