Two hours from Milan we find a new village listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy. Bagolino, a small corner of alpine paradise among the peaks of Lombardy, where history, tradition and nature meet.
The village of Bagolino joins the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy now at 371 realities considered unmissable and therefore worth visiting.
Bagolino represents an example of that Italy that hides within itself priceless jewels often unknown to most. Lombardy is one of the regions most involved in this work of valorization.
Bagolino, the new village among the most beautiful in Italy

A municipality in the province of Brescia, Bagolino is home to about 3800 people in an area of 108 square kilometers. It is located about 800 meters above sea level in the Caffaro Valley, a short distance from the Gaver Plain, in turn overlooked by the towering silhouette of the Cornone di Blumone. A village that imposes a stop on anyone passing nearby to enjoy cross-country skiing in winter or exciting trekking in spring/summer. Bagolino is a village rich in artistic monuments and the cradle of one of Italy’s finest cheeses: Bagoss.
Here in Bagolino is the third most impressive church in the province of Brescia. The reason why such a small town has such a large church sinks far back into history: As we read on a mountain and mountaineering blog Flavio Richiedei, a Bagolino resident and local history enthusiast recounts, “Bagolino is the last town in the province that today borders Trentino, but for 400 years it was a state border. From 1426, we followed the fate of Brescia, which entered the Republic of Venice, while on the other side was the episcopal principality of Trent.”
Bagolino’s traditions
What strikes visitors most of all is the beauty of the very well-preserved historic center, and it also arouses interest for its fabulous Carnival, which attracts a good number of tourists every year and features 24 folk ballads handed down through the ages and absolutely original.
And then there is to mention the prestigious Bagoss, the typical cheese of the area with saffron on which much of the agriculture and animal husbandry is based. In addition, many people are attracted by the beauty of the surrounding nature, farmsteads and bucolic surroundings found here making the village of Bagolino a destination to mark and visit as soon as possible. If you also love alpine sports, Gaver is for you.
Other villages beyond Bagolino
Enriching the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy was not only the village of Bagolino but also Rassa (province of Vercelli, in Piedmont), Bertinoro ( Forlì-Cesena, Emilia Romagna), Mulazzo (province of Massa, in Tuscany). And then, Ripatransone (in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in Marche), Scheggino (in the province of Perugia, in Umbria), Capranica Prenestina (in the province of Rome, in Lazio), Introdacqua (in the province of L’Aquila, in Abruzzo), Forza D’Agrò (in the province of Messina, in Sicily) and finally, as the host borough 2025-2027,there is Gravina in Puglia. Joining the list of Italy’s boroughs is a great opportunity for both economic and social development but also a responsibility.
