On September 6, 2026, the historic center of Bormio will host one of Lombardy’s most spectacular culinary events: Italy’s longest pizzoccherata. For an entire day, the streets of this Alpine village in the province of Sondrio will be transformed into one huge banquet table stretching about 800 meters, with local restaurants preparing and serving pizzoccheri simultaneously to all diners.
The highlight comes at 1:00 p.m., when the historic Bajona in Bormio gives the signal: at that very moment, traditional Valtellina pizzoccheri are served along the entire length of the table. The dish—buckwheat pasta topped with potatoes, seasonal vegetables, butter, cheese, and Valtellina Casera DOP —embodies mountain cuisine in its most authentic form.
Lunch begins as early as 12:30 p.m. with traditional appetizers: salamet, slinzega from Contea, and farm-fresh cheeses, accompanied by local wines. The menu concludes with traditional desserts such as buckwheat cake and the Valtellina apple. A gastronomic journey that takes you through cured meats, cheeses, wines, and mountain desserts in a single culinary experience.
Folklore, music, and the historic center as a stage

The culinary aspect is complemented by a day of festivities featuring traditional music, folk dances, and entertainment in the heart of the village. Piazza del Kuerc, Via Roma, and Piazzetta San Vitale become an integral part of the experience: the food is not separate from the setting, but rather blends into the urban landscape and the history of Bormio, amid Alpine houses, historic vistas, and the late-summer atmosphere of the Upper Valtellina.
The event is open to families, groups, couples, and tourists. Arriving a little before 12:30 p.m. allows you to enjoy the preparations and the atmosphere of anticipation leading up to the serving of the pizzoccheri.
