Originally from a small Polish village, Frederic Chopin traveled the length and breadth of European capitals, delighting audiences with his musical talent. He also passed through Milan in 1851 during a brief stopover in Italy, performing at the prestigious Teatro alla Scala. In addition to being a great composer, Chopin was also an innovator, bringing about the use of the pedal and an innovative technique for treating the piano keyboard.
Today, Chopin’s compositions are ready to shine on the stages of some of Milan’s most atmospheric locations, thanks to Candlelight Milano. Surrounded by 1,000,000 candles, talented musicians will make spectators listen again to some of the Polish composer’s most famous melodies in evocative candlelight concerts.
With works such as the Nocturnes, Mazurkas and Ballades, Chopin was able to convey a variety of feelings, from gentle melancholy to heroic force, while exploring new timbral and rhythmic possibilities. In this Candlelight tribute concert, his always nuanced musical language will be paid tribute in a journey through his compositions.
