From the Duomo to the remote Norwegian fjords. To be considered for a trip with friends or a romantic getaway for two.
An experience to do at least once in a lifetime. A trip that is sure to excite and enrich through breathtaking views.
Let’s take a closer look at it
Reaching the Arctic Circle by train from Milan, Italy

It seems obvious to say but there is no direct Milan Norway train. The best route is through Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and then to Norway. The main stops are:
- Milan → Switzerland (Zurich or Basel)
- Switzerland → Germany (e.g. Hamburg)
- Germany → Denmark (e.g. Copenhagen)
- Denmark → Sweden (e.g. Stockholm)
- Sweden → Norway, in the area north of the Polar Circle (e.g., the town of Narvik)
All with a single ticket or pass: the Interrail Global Pass. It entitles you to travel on almost all trains in 33 European countries. With that one pass you can board dozens of different trains, including those you need to get as far as Norway/Northern Sweden.
How the pass works

The Interrail Global Pass allows you to board certain trains, such as regional, intercity, commuter trains, and other trains that no9n require reservations. However for those trains that require it such as Arrows, Eurocity, night trains with berths, TGVs reservations are mandatory ( some high speed trains accept the pass. Best to check) and therefore the pass is no longer valid.
On the Interrail website or in the Rail Planner app you can see which trains you can or cannot get on. Reservation required you need a reservation otherwise not. in the case of a reservation you have to add a surcharge usually not exaggeratedly high but it varies depending on the type of train. The app can also be used offline by downloading in pdf all the data so if internet is missing you have all the info.
The global pass costs from 212 euros but even there it depends on how many days you want to be away and your age. For example if you decide to stay away 10 days, a solution that allows you to visit 9-11 destinations, the cost goes up to 251. 5 days 159 euro, 7 days – 215 and so on. You can find the solutions here.
