The Brera Botanical Garden is located in the heart of Milan. Commissioned in 1774 by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, it was abandoned for many years. Then, thanks to the University of Milan, it was restored to open to the public in 1998. It is now part of the State University’s facility: the Brera Astronomical Museum-Botanical Garden. In the garden (of 5,000 square meters) are about 300 botanical species, the greenhouse and the 700-year-old tank with water lilies and Irises.
