If these days you feel the need to slow down, this is a simple and pleasant proposal: a walk immersed in the colors of autumn and a festival dedicated to the flavors of the season.
All close to Milan, without long commutes or complications.
It is one of those outings that make you breathe easier, with the right pace.
Sagra della Zucca e dei Porcini in Legnano: the autumn event half an hour from Milan

A long-awaited event every year, organized by Street Food Parade and the Contrada San Bernardino Association, which bring back to Legnano a weekend entirely dedicated to autumn cuisine.
The event takes place Nov. 7-9 in an indoor setting, so perfect even in case of rain, and admission is free.
The menu changes slightly between lunch and dinner, but some dishes are now “ritual.”
- Risotto with porcini mushrooms
- Lasagna with pumpkin, sausage and provolone cheese
- Pumpkin gnocchi with speck, butter and sage
- Porcini mushroom and potato pie with parmesan fondue
- Braised beef with pumpkin cream and polenta
- Pork tenderloin with porcini mushrooms
- Traditional desserts, such as tiramisu or grandma’s cake.
It is a cuisine that warms. The kind that makes you say, after the first forkful, that maybe you needed this more than you thought.
You get together, you sit, you chat, you laugh.
And each dish arrives hot, unpretentious, but with that care you feel right away.
The festival can be reached from Milan in about 30 to 40 minutes by car, taking either the A8 or the SS33 del Sempione.
Address: Via Somalia 13, Legnano (MI) – Contrada San Bernardino.
Online reservation is recommended.
Hours: Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight; Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight.
Idea for the day: after the festival, a walk in San Vittore Olona.

Just minutes from Legnano, San Vittore Olona offers something simple but valuable: a green path that runs along the Olona River.
It is a flat, quiet walk, suitable for everyone.
It is not a village to visit for “how many things there are to see,” but for the way it makes you feel.
The river is flowing slowly, the trees are changing color, the air is cooler.
You sit on a bench. Watching the water go is more therapeutic than it seems.
Or you can push on to Mill Park, choosing from three different paths.
How to get there: from Milan and the festival to the village in minutes
From the Pumpkin and Porcini Festival on Via Somalia in Legnano to San Vittore Olona takes about 6 to 8 minutes by car. You park near the center and walk down to the path that runs along the Olona River.
From downtown Milan, however, the time always remains around 30-35 minutes. It is really an easy trip, with no complicated route changes or long roads.
No preparation is needed. No equipment is needed.
A leisurely walk, comfortable shoes, and that’s it.
Walk before, festival after (or vice versa).
Best advice? Get there in the morning.
Here’s an idea for managing the day:
- Park, take a walk along the Olona River.
- You take half an hour to be in good silence, the kind that really relaxes.
- Then you head to the festival and take your time sitting at the table.
Or the other way around:
First the sagra, with the smell of porcini greeting you, and then the slow walk to “digest” and be outside some more.
Both work.
You choose the order based on how you feel when you arrive.
The fall outing near Milan that works (every. single. time.)
The beauty of autumn is that it doesn’t ask for too much: just a little nature, comfort food, softer light.
This fall trip not far from Milan combines exactly that: something good to eat, a place to move to without rushing, and the proximity that allows the day to not turn into a chore.
It is a short but complete break, the kind that really makes an impact.
Because it is simple, it is close, it is cozy.
You don’t have to “do” anything: you just have to be there.
And that, today, is what luxury is all about.
