Jazz Takes Shape in Garghetti’s Portraits at the Paula Seegy Gallery
About thirty historic photographs, almost all in black and white and printed on cotton paper, trace the jazz scene from the 1960s to the 1980s. Alongside Miles Davis are Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Count Basie, Ornette Coleman, Bill Evans, and Buddy Rich: portraits that capture the energy of improvisation through gestures and expressions, from Davis’s concentration to Rich’s wit.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge at the Paula Seegy Gallery, located at Via San Maurilio 14, Tuesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., through Saturday, October 31. On Tuesday, October 20, at 6 p.m., Fabrizio Garghetti and curator Alberto Barranco di Valdivieso will meet with the public to discuss the photographer’s career.
