Just 150 km from Milan, in the heart of the Aosta Valley, a castle appears amidst the woods that seems to have stepped out of a fairy tale. It is Castel Savoia, in Gressoney-Saint-Jean: an elegant neo-Gothic residence with five pointed towers, once the retreat of Queen Margherita of Savoy.
We are located in Belvedere, at the foot of Colle Ranzola and overlooking Monte Rosa, deep within Walser territory. If you’re planning a weekend in the snow, this enchanted residence is the perfect stop to immerse yourself in a bygone era, surrounded by original furnishings and spectacular views.
Five towers and fairy-tale interiors: that’s why Castel Savoia looks like it came straight out of a movie

It is not only the local gray stone that impresses, but also the incredible eclecticism of Castel Savoia. The five spired turrets, of varying heights, and the semicircular veranda overlooking the valley create an unmistakable silhouette, worthy of fairy-tale castles.
Once you cross the threshold, the coolness of the stone gives way to the warmth of carved wood. Here are the must-see highlights during your visit:
- The Monumental Staircase – The beating heart of the castle, a majestic oak structure that takes your breath away and leads to the main floor.
- The coffered ceilings – Look up to admire the details crafted by Carlo Cussetti: monograms of the crown and daisies in homage to the Queen adorn every corner.
- The Rock Garden – Located in Belvedere, the castle stands nestled in a coniferous forest and opens onto an alpine botanical garden, offering one of the most spectacular views of Monte Rosa.

While it makes you want to spend a night within the walls beloved by Queen Margherita, the castle is now a museum and does not allow overnight stays. Those wishing to extend the experience can instead stay in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, where historic Alpine-style hotels and charming chalets, just a short walk from the castle, preserve the atmosphere of the Belle Époque intact.
