In Milan, summer moves to the beat of music, whatever the genre. From techno festivals like Nameless to the bachata and salsa nights of the Milano Latin Festival, all the way to magical classical music events, including candlelit concerts and evenings among the spires of the Duomo. This Saturday, June 13, the city’s iconic cathedral will serve as the backdrop for one of the most anticipated events of the musical season.
As is tradition, the Filarmonica della Scala’s “Concerto per Milano” returns, and for its thirteenth edition, it once again chooses Piazza Duomo, set to transform at 9:00 PM into a stage under the stars. With 5,000 seats, the concert will feature the musicians, conducted by Riccardo Chailly, performing masterpieces of 20th-century music, from Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Russian opera *Aleko* to George Gershwin’s *Concerto in F* for piano and orchestra . Making the evening even more special will be the debut of Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino.
Times, tickets, and transportation
For the “Concerto per Milano,” the space in the square in front of the Duomo will be entirely filled with 5,000 seats, which sold out in just a few hours. However, the concert remains open to everyone and is completely free: those who were unable to reserve a seat can still watch the performance standing, from the side areas of the square.
Since the event takes place in Piazza Duomo, the most convenient ways to reach the concert are the Duomo stop on the M1 line and , nearby, San Babila (M1, M4), Cairoli (M1), Cordusio (M1), Missori (M3), and , though slightly farther away, Cadorna (M1, M2). Alternatively, trams 2, 14, and 15 also allow you to reach the Duomo in just a few minutes. At this time, no extended public transportation service hours have been announced, but given the expected turnout, an overnight extension of at least the subway service is likely.
For those who do not wish to or cannot attend the concert in person, it will be possible to watch the live broadcast on both Rai 5 and RaiPlay, while the live radio broadcast will air on Rai Radio 3.
