Last December 3, Milan welcomed Kagurazaka Saryō, Italy’s first Japanese tea house and bistro, which opened at Corso Como 12. This unique eatery offers Milanese and visitors an authentic experience of the flavors and traditions of Japan.
A unique concept: a Japanese Wa-Café in Milan
Kagurazaka Saryō is not just a restaurant, but a real wa-café (和カフェ), a concept that blends Japanese tradition (wa 和) with the cozy atmosphere of a modern bistro (café カフェ).
This format, born 30 years ago in Tokyo’s Kagurazaka district, has conquered Japan with 12 locations, expanded to Thailand with 3 locations, and now lands for the first time in Italy.

Elena Ferroni and her husband Kinya Oguchi, owner of Aya Company Group, are the masterminds behind this new opening in Milan.
Their goal? To celebrate Japanese culture through authentic dishes, matcha desserts and a wide selection of Japanese teas, offering an immersive experience in the hospitality and gastronomy of the Rising Sun.
From Kagurazaka to Milan: history of the first restaurant in Tokyo
Kagurazaka Saryō was born in Tokyo’s Kagurazaka district, an area renowned for its history and traditional elegance, cobblestone streets, ryotei (traditional restaurants) and matsuri (folk festivals).
And the new Milanese eatery, inspired precisely by the Kagurazaka district, recreates its special atmosphere, starting with the furnishings: local materials and woods, natural tones and as a note of color the green of matcha, a symbol of balance and harmony.
Kagurazaka Saryō, in its locations in Asia as well as in this first European opening, aims to harmonize tradition and innovation, offering visitors a genuine Japanese experience, based on the values of omotenashi, the art of Japanese hospitality.
At this Wa-Café, customers can enjoy a moment of authentic calm while sipping tea or sake, or savoring one of the dishes prepared by Kagurazaka Saryō’s Japanese chef.
The offerings of this unique Japanese café.
The menu at Kagurazaka Saryō Milano is a journey into the taste of Japan. You can enjoy Kitsune Udon, a traditional dish of noodles in broth with fried tofu, enhanced with rice mochi and wakame seaweed.
For those who like seafood, Udon with fresh salmon and broccoli in wasabi butter offers a burst of flavor, accompanied by a salad with green tea dressing and slices of Daikon tsukemono.
Kagurazaka Saryō is not just savory; dessert takes center stage with Matcha Cheesecake and Matcha Mont blanc, prepared daily with Uji’s finest matcha, perfect to pair with a cup of Sencha tea.
The chef’s latest creation? The Yuzu Cheesecake, a citrus fruit typical of Japan, famous for its unique scent reminiscent of a perfect mix of lemon, grapefruit and tangerine.
And we cannot fail to mention the Saryo Parfait, a masterpiece of sweetness with matcha ice cream, intense matcha cream and azuki beans, embodying the art of Japanese dessert.
All perfect options for a snack!
For lovers of Made in Japan drinks, the sake selection is vast, telling stories through its amakuchi and karakuchi, while Japanese Lemon Sour, fermented with fresh lemons, offers an authentic taste experience.
A must-visit destination for lovers of true Japanese cuisine.
Kagurazaka Saryō Milano represents an opportunity to savor the essence of Japan in the heart of Milan, ideal for those seeking a unique dining experience and for anyone who wants to discover a new way of experiencing tea and food culture in the city.
With its varied and original offerings, this new Japanese café promises to soon become a landmark in Milan’s culinary scene.
Having won the hearts of the Japanese with its authenticity and attention to detail, Kagurazaka Saryō hopes to do the same for the Milanese.
