The mayor recently announced the opening date of the M4 subway in its entirety. This will allow travel from Linate to the Giambellino neighborhood (and vice versa). This is a big change in Milan’s public transportation landscape. Although work on some stops ( such as De Amicis and Sant’Ambrogio) is rather behind schedule, we are on the home stretch for the final opening. The M4 was already available in some sections such as the route to Linate from San Babila in just 12 minutes and other stops, but only parts.
In October it will open to the public in full and we are excited about it. The city had been a big open-air construction site for a while, so we hope that the opening of the metro in full will mean the dismantling of the various spreads around. We shall see. In the last few weeks tests have been completed and everything seems okay so off to the opening of the blue line.
So when will the opening of the M4 line take place?
According to the announcement we will be able to celebrate the opening of the M4 metro on Saturday, October 12. Not much longer, just over two weeks and Milan will be colored blue. The opening of the M4 will make it possible to get to areas previously connected only by surface transportation. If we think of Giambellino, now in the blink of an eye you will get there without problems, a bit like Linate. The airport has never been so close. The new stations will be Sforza Policlinico, where the interchange with the yellow line is planned, then Santa Sofia, Vetra, De Amicis, Sant’Ambrogio – intersection with M2 -, Coni Zugna, California, Bolivar, Tolstoj, Frattini, Gelsomini, Segneri and San Cristoforo.
The inauguration is also expected to be attended by Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini. The M4 with its 21 stations covers about 15 kilometers of extension. Fingers crossed and let’s see.
