On July 1 , the direct Malpensa-Hanoi flight was inaugurated : in 12 hours with three weekly frequencies, you can reach Vietnam from Milan. After the direct Milan-Tokyo flight, now it’s Vietnam’s turn. Travel lovers, this article is for you. Malpensa is becoming increasingly international, connecting Asia in a more accessible way. This is the first direct flight between the two countries and the ninth flight operated by the Asian airline, Vietnam Airlines, to Europe.
The new Milan-Hanoi route will be operated with Boeing 787 aircraft.

The launch ceremony was held at Terminal 1 of Malpensa Airport and was attended by the Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Võ Thị Ánh Xuân, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy, Duong Hai Hung, the Undersecretary of the Lombardy Region, Raffaele Cattaneo, the airport director, Monica Piccirillo, and the CEO of SEA, Armando Brunini.
Thanks to this new connection, Vietnam Airlines becomes the 30th Southeast Asian airline to operate at Malpensa, which is proving to be a strategic hub for long-haul traffic to Asia.
Over 3 million passengers have traveled to Asia in recent years, an increase of 24% compared to 2023. With the direct Milan-Hanoi flight, traffic is set to increase.
Governor Fontana emphasized Vietnam’s interest in Lombardy, considered a reliable partner thanks to its university and business system. Cattaneo recalled that the new flight is the result of the Lombardy mission to Hanoi in October 2023, during which cooperation agreements were signed. The Vietnamese vice president highlighted opportunities for cooperation on environmental issues, particularly in adapting to climate change.
