Women’s Day is an opportunity to remember the achievements of women, but it also serves as a reminder of the violence they have suffered. Throughout history, there have been many revolts by women for women with the aim of breaking the chains of discrimination and prejudice that still, unfortunately, bind many women around the world.
Although there is still a long way to go, much has been done and many goals have been achieved. Women should be celebrated every day, it’s true, but today a little more so. Here are some activities and initiatives to participate in in Milan, both to support the feminist struggle and to dedicate some time to yourself.
Visit a museum for free
The ‘8 March at the Museum’ initiative returns in 2026 . To celebrate International Women’s Day, all women will be able to enter state museums, castles, historic villas, gardens, and other cultural sites free of charge. Among the gems not to be missed participating in the initiative are the Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano (free admission but reservation required) and the Pinacoteca di Brera. The complete list is constantly being updated!
Take part in the city event on March 8
As every year, on March 8, Milan is colored with civic engagement with the traditional peaceful city event dedicated to International Women’s Day. The parade, a symbolic moment of claiming rights and gender equality, will meet in Piazza Duca d’Aosta at 3:00 p.m., ready to march through the streets of the city center.
The Jazz Room Milano: a tribute to Soul
A sound archive of music and memory, The Jazz Room: Tribute to Soul traces the epic evolution of the genre from its spiritual roots to the heart of contemporary popular culture. Each performance celebrates the legendary artists who have infused hopes, struggles, and dreams into immortal melodies, capable of making bodies and souls vibrate with a universal and timeless force. On March 7, let yourself be captivated by the splendid voice of Cecilia Barra Caracciolo in the historic San Fedele Auditorium.

“Great Women” is a tour inside the Monumental Cemetery that will take you on a journey of discovery of women who made history and demonstrated that emancipation is always possible and not just a prerogative of men. Illustrious figures buried and remembered in one of Italy’s most important cemeteries. From Clara Maffei to Lina Merlin. Many women have left their mark.
Experience an adventure alone
Why feel judged if you go to the cinema or restaurant alone? Learning to feel good about yourself is the first step to feeling good in company. Once you have achieved this awareness, you will not need anyone else and you will decide to spend time only with those who truly deserve your time. For this reason, we recommend planning an activity to do alone: an exhibition, the cinema, a weekend away. You’ll be amazed at how wonderful it is to spend time alone, doing everything you like and that makes you feel good.
Get to know all the “righteous” women at the Garden of the Righteous

Take some time and discover the names of all those women who fought, even losing their lives, because they believed in greater ideals. Ideals of justice, peace, and equality. It is also thanks to them that we have come this far. Women who chose to take responsibility, refusing to look the other way: Azucena Villaflor, the promoter of movements in favor of the truth about the desaparecidos in Argentina , or Sonita Alizadeh, a young Afghan woman who fights every day against the tragedy of child brides, and many others. Women who have made freedom and justice their mission. They are certainly worthy of remembrance and a visit.
Prevention is better than cure
From March 2 to 8, on the occasion of World HPV Day and International Women’s Day, the Lombardy ASSTs are organizing a week of free initiatives for the prevention and early diagnosis of cancer. The offer includes HPV screening with Pap tests for women between the ages of 25 and 29 who have not had one in the last three years, and HPV tests for those between the ages of 30 and 64 who have not had one in at least five years. HPV vaccination is also available for girls and boys up to the age of 26, plus the categories at risk of PRPV 2024, and mammography screening, which can be booked on the dedicated portal.
