In October, the pumpkin patch just outside Milan has a spine-tingling new attraction: the Haunted Maze, a hay-filled maze where you have to find your way out.
We’re in Vimodrone,at Agricola delle Meraviglie by Steflor, open through November 1 for the fifth edition of its pumpkin patch.
The Pumpkin Patch: After the Tulips, the Fall Edition
If you took the kids to pick tulips in Vimodrone in the spring (or to get lost among the sunflowers in the summer), this is the same place. In the fall, the fields are filled with 41 varieties of pumpkins: you pick them, take pictures of them, and pay by the kilo on your way out.
To turn them into Halloween lanterns, there’s a carving workshop. It costs €19.90, includes admission and a pumpkin, and is recommended for ages 3 and up.
To explore the estate without tiring out the little ones, there’s also the “Trenino Zuccoso” train.
The weekend belongs to the kids (including Halloween)
On Saturdays and Sundays, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., there are activities for children. On Saturdays, there’s ZuccaGame, featuring target practice, races, and balance challenges. On Sundays , it’s time for ZuccAvventura, a treasure hunt featuring clues and riddles hidden throughout the field.
On both days, there’s the Zuccodromo, the wheelbarrow race, and the day ends with dancing.
This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday: the program runs on October 31 and is repeated on Sunday, November 1, the farm’s last day.
When to Visit Agricola delle Meraviglie (and How Much It Costs)
Weekends are the liveliest time, but also the most crowded. On very busy days, the organizers warn, access to the carving workshop may be limited.
How to Get There (and What to Pack in Your Backpack)
Take the metro to Vimodrone and walk for about eight minutes. The entrance is near a roundabout on the Padana Superiore, so it’s best to hold children’s hands during the last stretch. By car, the address is Via Pio la Torre 9.
