Want to be amazed this Christmas? Then take a trip to these two Umbrian towns where Italy’s largest Christmas installations are located: Just to give you some numbers: one ‘installation is 1080 meters long, the other 650 x 350. With thousands of lights. Scenic and spectacular, they deserve a tour.

Italy’s largest Christmas installations.

- The first one to report is in Castiglione del Lago, which in December is transformed into the stage for an internationally renowned Christmas event, Luci sul Trasimeno. The undisputed star is the Christmas Tree built on water, a complex and unparalleled work of electrical engineering.
- This record-breaking structure is an impressive 1080 meters long and 50 meters wide, supported by 166 poles and illuminated by more than 2,650 lights. It stretches more than a kilometer over the lake. It is a visually stunning scenic work that can be seen from multiple vantage points or lookouts.
- Its spectacularity lies in the fact that the reflections of the lights on the water create an ever-changing spectacle that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
- The event lasts from December 6, 2025 to January 6, 2026

With the other striking and scenic light installation, we move to Gubbio: this is truly the largest according to the Guinness World Record. It spans the entire flank of Mount Ingino, which towers above the medieval town. Spectacular and unique it must be seen at least once in a lifetime. It is 650 meters high and 350 meters wide with as many as 30,000 light bulbs installed. In both Gubbio and Castiglione , the lights are powered entirely by renewable sources. It is scheduled to be turned on Dec. 7 and will go out after Epiphany.

Spectacular Christmas installations aside these two towns are worth a visit for their charm and historical and artistic heritage:
- Gubbio is one of the best preserved historic towns with its cobblestone streets. Its historic buildings full of charm and history; walking here is like stepping back in time.
- For its natural beauty all around. The town is nestled in the beauty of the Umbrian hills and has unique views.
Castiglione is equally magical with its lakeside location. The lakefront and views offer spectacular sunsets, romantic walks and unmissable photographic vistas. Here, too, you find a well-preserved medieval village with small squares and historic alleys that tell centuries of history. At Christmas with the lights then they look like real nativity scenes and with their Christmas installations among the largest in Italy they become unique destinations.
