The weekend of St. Ambrose and Immaculate Conception is one of the most beloved times for the Milanese. Not only because December 7 is a celebration of the city’s patron saint, but also because December 8, 2025 falls on a perfect Monday, turning everything into an ideal Immaculate Conception weekend for those who want to unplug, explore and breathe in the Christmas atmosphere.
Sure, it will be cold (it’s still December in Milan!), but the city is bursting with lights, events, markets and traditions that make the air crisp in every sense.
If you’re wondering what to do in Milan for Immaculate Conception, or where to go on December 8 without straying too far away, here you’ll find a comprehensive guide full of ideas for all ages and weekend styles.
Oh Bej Fair Oh Bej!
From December 5 to 8, 2025, the much-loved Oh Bej! Oh Bej! Fair returns, a symbol of the feast of St. Ambrose and among the most heartfelt traditions of the Milanese. The streets around the Castello Sforzesco are filled with the scent of chestnuts, sweets, honey and stalls full of crafts, decorations and gift ideas. A historic, lively and authentic market where you can find unique pieces and breathe in the most genuine Christmas atmosphere.
Lighting of the tree in Piazza Duomo
This year the Christmas tree in Cathedral Square will be lit on Dec. 6 at 5 p.m., anticipating the tradition on Dec. 7. The event is free and attracts thousands of people, so best to arrive a little early. In Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the tree will be by Dior Parfums, following the success of the previous year’s white-and-gold decorations. Those hoping for the return of the Swarovski tree will have to wait a little longer….
Artigiano in Fiera
From December 6 to 14, 2025,Artigiano in Fiera, the largest international event dedicated to handicrafts, returns to Fieramilano Rho. More than 100 countries, scents, flavors, fabrics, handmade items and a crazy energy that transports you on a journey around the world. It is the perfect place to buy your first gifts or special ingredients for dinner. Did someone say panettone? There will be plenty of it at the Fair, and many other sweet artisanal Christmas temptations. Admission is free.
Visit Grazzano Visconti, the fairytale Christmas village.

An hour and a half from Milan is Grazzano Visconti, a medieval village that becomes a true Christmas village during the holidays. From Dec. 6 to Dec. 30 (and until Jan. 6), the village comes alive with more than 80 exhibitors, Santa’s House, a skating rink, shows, gospel choirs, elf village, Christmas cinema and a huge Ferris wheel. Admission to the “Christmas Village” costs €12 (free under 3 years old). A truly magical experience, also perfect for families.
Wunder Mrkt at Spirit de Milan
On December 7, Wunder Mrkt returns to the beautiful industrial space of Spirit de Milan. Every Sunday in December you can lose yourself among independent crafts, vintage pieces, design, vinyls and more than 100 selected exhibitors. All accompanied by live music, good food and an atmosphere suspended between past and future. A different “Christmas Market” where you can discover unusual objects and breathe a festive and creative atmosphere.
A day between art and history: Pinacoteca Ambrosiana and Crypt of San Sepolcro
A fine idea for the Bridge of Our Lady is to visit the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana with access to the evocative Crypt of San Sepolcro. Here you can admire masterpieces such as Caravaggio’s “Basket of Fruit,” Raphael’s “School of Athens,” Leonardo’s “Portrait of a Musician,” and Codex Atlanticus sketches. The tour continues underground in the stone-paved medieval church, a unique place of mystery and fascination.
Before the Scala

On December 7, St. Ambrose’s Day, the city comes to a halt for the famous La Scala premiere, which opens the opera season. Even if you don’t have a ticket, you can enjoy the glittering atmosphere between Piazza della Scala and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This year, Šostakovič’s A Lady Macbeth of the Mcensk District is being staged. And if it’s already sold out to see the opera, you can book a guided tour of the museum and its interiors on December 8, a truly elegant experience.
See the musical Flashdance
At the National Theater for the Immaculata weekend is Flashdance – The Musical, based on the famous 1980s film. The show is wonderful: energetic choreography, beautifully sung and with spectacular sets! The character of Alex Owens is truly modern, and this stage version is so engaging that you don’t want to miss it!
Fabri Fibra at Fabrique for a loud night out
Feel like spending a different night than usual, maybe attending a nice concert in Milan? On December 6, at Fabrique, Fabri Fibra brings his Superclub Tour 2025. An ideal concert for those who want to enjoy an urban and eventful weekend, with his most beloved hits and a live show that promises energy and adrenaline. Perfect to warm up before the cold days of this long bridge.
Outing in Lombardy

If the Immaculate Conception bridge makes you want to get out of the city, here are some suggestions less than two hours from Milan:
Lake Como
Perfect for those looking for quiet and postcard-perfect scenery. Bellagio, Varenna and Como offer Christmas lights, scenic walks and cozy locales for a lake-view hot chocolate.
Valtellina and snow-capped mountains
Ideal for those who want to breathe fresh air and perhaps test out the first ski slopes. Bormio and Livigno offer spas, typical restaurants, stunning white views and even waterfalls.
Franciacorta
A great idea for those who enjoy wine tastings and wineries. Many producers organize special Immaculate Conception tours, also perfect as gift ideas.
Pavia and the Oltrepò
Small towns such as Varzi or Fortunago open their Christmas markets right on the Immaculate Conception weekend, with lots of local products (perfect for Christmas gifts) and a cozy, intimate atmosphere. A great alternative for a quiet outing without too much travel.
