After the success of NoLo, a district popular for its nightlife, aperitifs, dinners and get-togethers with friends, comes Na.Pa. If the area north of Loreto quickly became an iconic, alternative, hipster district where one could go to find special events (think Biennolo), new, different clubs and an equally diverse audience, another was born on the opposite side of town. Let’s talk about NaPa, the new district of Milan born a few years ago in the city.
If NoLo is the combination of the words North of Loreto, NaPa alludes to Naviglio Pavese, that is, the urban area within City Hall 5 (south of Milan to be clear) born thanks to the initiative of a group of restaurateurs.
Somewhat like NoLo wants to enhance all that area north of Loreto, so NaPa’s goal is to give value to the Naviglio Pavese area by creating a dialogue between the center and the suburbs.
How NaPa, Milan’s new district, was born.
As mentioned earlier NaPa was born from the association of a group of restaurateurs, but also bars, wineries, trattorias and gastronomic hubs with the aim of highlighting the excellences of a little-known but high-potential area of the city, which hides within it some really worthy gems, both from a culinary and cultural point of view.
Among the realities worthy of mention in NaPa is the restaurant of starred chef and Ambrogino D’oro Claudio Sadler. DistrEat, an evocative venue inside an old rice warehouse. Cantina Urbana, one of the best-known wine bars in the city.Osteria Grand Hotel, which used to be a balera, a bit like the one at Ortica.
And then you find a whole series of old buildings that have been repurposed, also redeveloped through the use of Street Art ( like the one that houses Cantina Urbana ). From this area then one can penetrate and get to know lesser known neighborhoods of Milan but with their own history, Torretta or Stadera for example. Nature also becomes more lush as one leaves behind the concrete of the city heading toward Pavia, a wilder, greener nature.
The same path one takes if one wants to walk the Celts and Ligurian Trail among others. Will NaPa be able to carve out its own space like NoLo? We shall see. It certainly has the potential.
