These ambitious plans will not only renew historic neighborhoods but also create new cutting-edge districts, positioning Milan as a model of urban innovation internationally.
With an estimated total investment of more than 13 billion euros, Milan is preparing for a future in which it will be a global model of urban development.
The city is embracing challenges such as climate change and social inclusion, creating spaces that will improve the quality of life for its residents and attract talent and investment from around the world.
Cascina Merlata: Uptown Milan

- Expected completion date: 2025.
- Description: Uptown Milan is a smart district that includes the city’s largest lifestyle center. The project aims to create a sustainable neighborhood with low-impact buildings, large green spaces and state-of-the-art services. UpTown is the neighborhood where the lifestyle center, the Merlata Bloom, will rise.

Lambrate Streaming

- Expected completion date: between 2026 and 2027.
- Description: the project involves the redevelopment of the former Lambrate railway yard, transforming it into a green area with residential buildings and public spaces a 41,000-square-meter public park with orchards, vegetable gardens and 900 trees. In addition to affordable housing and services surrounded by a park of more than 41,000square meters
MIND (Milan Innovation District)

- Expected completion date: between 2026 and 2027.
- Description: is the largest Italian district dedicated to scientific, technological and social innovation. MIND is a science and technology park that will house the Galeazzi Hospital, the Human Technopole research center and the State University. Plus commercial and residential areas, event spaces such as the Big Theater, and a vast park, the Common Ground, with bike paths and bodies of water
- The Milan Innovation District will be a 650,000-square-meter science-technology park, free of fossil fuels and powered by 100 percent renewable energy. It will also include the tallest wooden building in Italy and a Mobility Hub with 1,500 parking spaces.
Santa Giulia North

- Expected completion date: second part 2027.
- Description: in the north Santa Giulia-Rogoredo quadrant, the project includes a large park, the PalaItalia (home of the 2026 Olympics) and a new metrotranvia.
- the new metrotranvia will be the 13, connecting M4 Repetti to Rogoredo M3 FS station serving the whole neighborhood.
- iI PalaItalia will be the largest indoor arena in Italy, with a capacity of 16,000 spectators and an innovative design that will allow it to host world-class sporting events and concerts.
Scalo Farini

- Estimated completion date: 2030 approx.
- Description: this is the largest redevelopment work active at the moment to regenerate railway yards, which will include the Brera Academy campus. It will cover an area of 468,000 square meters, 300,000 square meters of which will be parkland.
Bisceglie: Seimilano

- Expected completion date: between late 2025 and 2027.
- Description: a new residential neighborhood. An urban regeneration project by Sei Milano, in the former polluted areas of the Calchi Taeggi quarries.
- It covers an area of 300,00sqm in the vicinity of the Bisceglie metro. A first batch of residenmze has already been opened in 2024, the second batch , with 11 buildings for a total of 650 apartments, should be finished by 2025. The whole project between 2026 and 2027
Symbiosis, the new Community District

- Expected completion date: max by 2025.
- Description: rebirth project for the south of the city on an area of 125,000 square meters south of Porta Romana in the emerging Soupra neighborhood. We will find Snamo headquarters, a “Green Theater,” and Moncler’s new Hq in the area behind the international school.
- The project follows the guidelines of the European Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, implementing innovative solutions to address current environmental challenges.
- This important intervention will further connect the entire area to the urban fabric, bringing Symbiosis even closer to the city center.
LOC – Piazzale Loreto

- Expected completion date: by end2026.
- Description: Regeneration of Piazzale Loreto with the creation of green and pedestrian spaces. An open-air eco-sustainable agora capable of connecting the subway access and the city plan a place for socializing and sharing will be born.

Verdi Conservatory Music Forest

- Location: Conservatory Street.
- Estimated completion date: TBD.
- Description: building the new Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory campus.
- The project includes a 350-seat auditorium, green spaces, state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, rehearsal rooms, coworking and dining areas. A 200-bed student residence is also planned.
Citywave by CityLife

- Location: CityLife.
- Expected completion date: 2026.
- Description: wave-shaped architectural complex, consisting of two buildings of 110 and 50 meters, connected by a 140-meter hanging porch structure.
- The facade of the building will be equipped with integrated photovoltaic panels that will change color during the day, creating a dynamic visual effect.
Olympic Village formerly Scalo Romana

- Location: area of the former Porta Romana railway yard, in the southern sector of the city, between via Ripamonti and Corso Lodi
- Estimated completion date: completed.
- Description: village for the 2026 Olympics athletes, then will be converted into student residences.
- The village is built according to circular economy principles, using recycled and recyclable materials, and completely carbon neutral.
Bovisa-Goccia master plan

- Location: Bovisa.
- Expected completion date: TBD Depends on the complexity of the work..
- Description: The project involves the transformation of the area into a green and technological hub with university residences, spaces for startups, public areas and a new train station
BEIC – European Library of Information and Culture

- Location: Porta Vittoria.
- Expected completion date: by 2027.
- Description: a new public and digital library in Milan, designed to be a state-of-the-art cultural hub
- The BEIC will have an underground robotic repository capable of handling millions of volumes, making it one of the most technologically advanced libraries in Europe.
The Milan Lighthouse

- Location: Porta Romana area.
- Expected completion date: 2025.
- Description: new office complex that includes the redevelopment of existing buildings from the early 20th century and the construction of an iconic 145-meter-high tower that will adopt innovative energy efficiency and eco-sustainability systems.
- The tubular form gives the building a distinctive modern look, while the inclusion of a sky garden and a panoramic viewpoint 125 meters above will offer occupants and visitors a breathtaking view of the city.
Milan – Seregno FS Metrotramway

- Location: Milan North – Seregno.
- Expected completion date: end of 2028.
- Description: new metrotranvia line that will connect Milan to Seregno, 22km 25 stops.
- Theline will use vehicles with low environmental impact and will be integrated with a system of bicycle lanes along the entire route.
