Stepping through the threshold of Backdoor43 is an experience that transforms claustrophobia into pure exclusivity. Inside, the space is measured down to the millimeter: one wall entirely covered with rare bottles, soft lighting, and just four seats. The atmosphere evokes an old Victorian study, rich in wooden details, mirrors, and small vintage objects that make use of every available inch. Even the bathroom is a small masterpiece of engineering, skillfully fitted into the tight confines of the space.
Backdoor43 boasts a prized collection of vintage whiskeys (over 200 labels). Stepping inside feels like a journey back in time, evoking the speakeasies of the 1920s, typical of the Big Apple during Prohibition.
How to order a drink (without going inside)
For those without a reservation—which can be made online—the bar offers a truly unique “street” service. A small peephole opens on the facade:
- The ritual: knock and wait for the peephole to open.
- The bartender: Only their hands will appear, and their face will be hidden by the famous Guy Fawkes mask (V for Vendetta).
- The order: choose your takeout cocktail, served in custom glasses, perfect for a stroll along the canal.

- Time limit: each reservation slot lasts exactly 90 minutes. Once your time is up, you must give up your seat to the next four lucky guests.
- Total privacy: once the door closes behind you, the place is all yours. You’ll be alone with the masked bartender, who will prepare custom drinks tailored to your tastes, transforming the experience into one of the most intimate and exclusive in all of Milan.
