Lombardy is a region that offers the opportunity to visit beautiful places surrounded by nature. Near the city there are wonderful villages, enchanted forests, natural pools where you can dive and regenerate, and destinations for excellent out-of-town trips. We don’t miss anything, which is why we can’t not mention the Waterfall of Wonders near Milan.
It is time to get in touch with nature, away from the chaos of cities and beaches crowded with bathers. This secret place is located at the bottom of the Marmitte dei Giganti trail in Val d’Ancogno. Thus, it represents a perfect combination of outdoor sports and relaxation in a cool area. The trail is easy to walk and takes us into the heart of the enchanting birch and beech forest.
The path surrounded by greenery is not difficult and is suitable for everyone, being among the trees it protects you from the scorching rays of the sun and in case you arrive exhausted from the heat there is the natural pool with its nice cool waterfall to welcome you. The trail is well marked and lasts just long enough to enjoy nature and get ready for swimming.
How do you get to the waterfall of wonders?

On the Indieroad blog that we quote, link and thank we find the perfect description to get to the Waterfall of Wonders near Milan:
From the A4 exit at Dalmine and follow for Val Brembana. When you reach Olmo al Brembo, turn left and follow the signs for Valtorta. Continue in the direction of Valtorta, the access to the trail is just before the hamlet Forno Nuovo, just past a bridge on the left, at the height of a two-story gray house.
When you see the house you need to take as a reference, turn left at the end of the bridge where the small altar is located. Park before the picnic area and continue on foot.Leave the car at the trailhead and walk on a simple, partly beaten mule track with concrete for about ten minutes.

When you reach the gate of a private property, turn right and follow the well-marked signs. From here begins the trail proper within a lovely birch and beech forest that proceeds with almost no gradient up the valley. After 10 minutes you reach a second fork where you have to choose the path to the left that descends to the river. A small wooden bridge crosses the creek bed to rejoin the path soon after.
Here the trail proceeds for another 15 minutes, first uphill into the woods, then back toward the river. You must descend toward the river bed and climb it until you reach the mouth of a small canyon, at the end of which you can see the Waterfall of Wonders with its magnificent pool set among the rocks.
Val d’Ancogno and its beauties
In Val d’Ancogno, a side valley of Valle Brembana (there is a delightful agriturismodelizioso, Il Ferdy, nearby), there are wonderful trails in the middle of the woods. Wild scenery, close to Milan. It is also a beloved destination during winter, where the bravest – ice climbers – aspire to climb the famous “Sword of Damocles,” or the 50-meter icefall that forms in the coldest months.
This wilderness area gives us striking and unexpected corners with many waterfalls to discover. A nice out-of-town excursion for those who do not like the heat of the city.
