What if we told you that you could lace up your boots in Piazza Duomo and, ten days later, take a dip in the sea of Sestri Levante? It’s not a dream, but a 222-kilometer adventure through three regions. It’s the Trail of the Celts and Ligurians: here’s how to walk the incredible path from Milan to the sea.
Imagine leaving home with your backpack and finding yourself at the sea starting from Milan. A path with that something magical that will make you fall in love. 10 stages, 222 km, 3 regions to cross to find yourself at the beach.
The Trail of the Celts and Ligurians

It doesn’t matter if summer is behind us, the trail is always beautiful. But we need to pay more attention as well as have good physical preparation and some experience in winter hiking.
- Tapa 1: Duomo – Navigli Darsena – From the Navigli to Pavia.
- Stage 2: From Pavia to Oltrepò Pavese.
- Stage 3: From Oltrepò to Val Tidone.
- Stage 4: From the Tidone Valley to the Trebbia Valley.
- Stage 5: From the Trebbia Valley to the Nure Valley.
- Stage 6: From the Val Nure to the Val d’Aveto.
- Stage 7: From the Val d’Aveto to Monte Penna
- Stage 8: From Monte Penna to the Bocco Pass
- Stage 9: From Passo del Bocco to Val Graveglia
- From Val Graveglia to Sestri Levante.
And here we are, boots off and feet on the sand.
Each stage offers unparalleled beauty: according to Hemingway, Val Trebbia was the most beautiful valley in the world. Or Mount Penna is considered a place of profound spirituality and beauty. On a naturalistic level, it is the centerpiece of a very important area: from the Aveto Regional Park, to the headwaters of the twin rivers Taro and Ceno. Not to mention Pavia the first stop and first Lombard capital, which at the historical-artistic level is a jewel.
The Trail of the Celts and Ligurians is not only a path that takes you to the sea but a journey of discovery of the beauty of our territory, but also a journey within itself.
Practical tips

Pack your backpack and equipment carefully. A walker’s “toolbox” almost always includes the same items: clothing, shoes, backpack, medical kit, hygiene kit, equipment (electronic and otherwise), supplies. Try to ” try on” your backpack so you don’t discover at the last that it is too heavy or the walk becomes untenable. Sunscreen and hat if you are traveling in summer and long, light-colored pants for bugs and certain areas where the vegetation is high and wild.
