Just an hour from Milan, this village lights up with magic every Christmas: the streets, squares and houses of the village are transformed into a sea of twinkling lights, with more than a million points of light telling stories of fairy tales and Christmas atmospheres. Strolling through the illuminated streets, with glimpses of Lake Maggiore and dreamy decorations, young and old alike can enjoy a unique experience of colors, lights and emotions that remain in their hearts. If you are looking for where to admire the Christmas lights near Milan, this is the perfect destination for an outing that combines magic, tradition and visual spectacle.
We are located in Leggiuno, in the province of Varese overlooking Lake Maggiore. Already the setting is evocative, but with this annual event Leggiuno becomes the most magical town in Italy, dare we say, because a fairy-tale Alice in Wonderland-like kingdom really comes to life here.
But what event dresses the village in lights?

Dressing Leggiuno in bright lights is the Lucine di Natale event.
The event traces its roots back to 1999 from an idea of Leggiunese Lino Betti , who bought the first lights in the late 1900s until he never stopped, reaching the current million. Quoting Mr. Betti,“Since that first bundle of lights, we have come a long way and I believe I have succeeded, together with the many collaborators, in bringing to life an exciting show.” It has certainly created an incredible event that we should all see at least one December in our lives.
For years the Christmas lights have transformed Leggiuno into a place capable of enchanting young and old, attracting thousands of visitors. Once again this year, the village will be dressed in new magic: the center of the town will become a true fairy-tale village, animated by luminous sets and brilliant figures that will accompany visitors along the entire route.
To recapture the atmosphere of Christmas, you don’t need to stray too far. Just a few kilometers from Milan there is a special corner where reindeer, sleighs, Santa Claus, comet stars and glowing fir trees will light up the town with wonder and amazement.

Let’s get down to practical information: the event starts on Dec. 6 and runs until Jan. 6 (closed Dec. 24 and 31). Entry by reservation, you can easily make it online here. Opendaily from 5:30 pm to 11 pm. Last admission at 10:30 pm.
